ReikiWhat is Reiki?Reiki is a Japanese energy healing system that addresses the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels and expands the body's ability to health itself. It is based on the principle that the universal life force energy surrounds and flows through all beings and this is what causes everything to be alive. If our life force energy is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed, and if it is high, we are happier and healthier. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "divine wisdom" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "divine energy." Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, removes energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma and there is nothing you must believe in. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Though not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended to practice simple ethical ideals that promote peace and harmony, which are universal across all cultures. What is a Reiki session like? The Reiki energy is channeled through the practitioner into the recipient. This is practiced through light touch on different parts of the body or in the aura a few centimetres above the body with no touch at all. Although there are a few positions in which the practitioner is in contact with the body (such as cradling the head), treatments do not need to involve actual touching, if that is not desired. It is important to know that it is the recipient who draws the energy as needed; you take responsibility for your own healing. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. You will be asked to lie down on a massage table fully clothed except for your shoes. You may be asked to remove or loosen your belt so that your breathing is not restricted in any way. It is best to wear loose-fitting garments made of natural fabrics, if possible. You may also be asked to remove any jewelry, so consider leaving these at home. A Reiki session typically lasts about one hour. Reiki MassageUlrike also offers Reiki combined with relaxation massage. A session begins with a Reiki treatment and when the energy healing process is complete, after about one hour, Ulrike gently moves into a soothing massage while the loving Reiki energy continues to flow. Adding a one-hour massage for a two-hour session in total would be ideal, but you can also choose a longer full-body massage or a shorter back massage. AppointmentsReiki sessions are offered in Ulrike's beautiful healing space in Burquitlam (Coquitlam just off North Road on the Burnaby border). Outcalls to your residence are available at an additional charge. To find out more or to book an appointment, please call 604-765-0685 or email: reiki [at] kaleidoscopehealing.com
